Another response to "Speedometer acting wierd and hard shifting" (in FAQ).
The cause on my 7.3 was a bad tach control sensor(located on the front top of the motor.
After this is changed the diagnostic codes should be cleared or the problem will not be completely cured. (from my Ford service tech)
