I've replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor on my truck and it still has a slight hitch or misfire at an idle every 6-7 seconds. It may idle 20 sec smooth then hitch once and idle fine. It's always had this hitch.
So I'm going to buy a coil now. It's 22 years old and if it's not fixed then I'll keep the coil on the shelf cause I'll always have use for it.
I'm putting an MSD box on the truck soon, and the stock coil is fine, but I want to give the truck something nice for a coil and was wondering your opinions.
One thing i've learned is that there are resistance values to understand. Some coils need an external resistor. Some are built in to coil. Some performance coils have variable voltage features, depending upon R.P.M. Sometimes as much as 60,000 V. But i am told that electronic ignition throws enough spark for stock applications, especially since today's gasoline is so weak and punchless. Might try M.S.D. 8.5 MM wires that have only 60 ohms a foot resistance. This will help get more of the stock spark to the plugs. Also Autolite plugs that have the copper core.
I use the MSD 6AL with a blaster coil on my 95 302 , also have there timing control box and cap , rotor , super conductor wires , autolite coppers on the plugs , never had any problems ......Lew
No its a timing control box so you can advance or retard the timing from the cab , i have a custom chip that has the timing curve , i run a NOS system so i need to take some timing out when i spray it......
Bot the original poster mentions an M.S.D. box. Isin't that an ignition curve box ? I have a control box that you can manually change the timing from the cab. I thought that was called an ignition curve box.

....I have the msd 8680 timing control , it just changes the base timing with a control **** , the computer takes care of the timing curve , that can be changed with a custom chip or a tuner.....
