Last week the truck wouldn't start after driving to the hardware store. Read the codes and they pointed to a bad HPOP. Had the truck towed to the dealer here in Douglas Ga. I also let the Mechanic know that the headgaskit was leaking when thuck is under a load.
Turns out the HPOP was fine. Just had a leaking O-ring.
$4800 for all head gaskit job including ARP bolts, fixxing the O-ring and an upgraded fitting for the HPOP.
I then went to a local turbo and injection shop and bought the PowerMax turbo even though I didn't need a new turbo....$1800..... Learned something neat from the turbo guy. Those turbos dont come pre-lubed. He said if you dont prelube them (while spinning the wheel) you will cause some premature wear on initial start up. He lubed it for me with a mix of 50/50 STP and Mobil-1. And it took probably 1/2 qt.
Cant wait to get the truck back and pull the camper on a few shake down trips before we head back to Alaska this summer.
I needed the turbo right now so i bought it local. Part of that 1800 is a $350 core charge. There is nothing wrong with the OEM turbo. Thought I might try to sell it on Ebay for 500 or so.

Ouch.....
You're the ONLY person I've ever known that had to pay a core charge on a powermax turbo. You definitely need to recoup somehow......
