360,390 ain't a big difference except....
I just finished puttin the 4.10's and a t-18 in my 72 ranger xlt 250 HD special which has a stock 390. This makes the driveline exact same as my 1970 250 custom camper special which gots a stock 360 2v. The 390 has to crank ps, and pb though. The 390 goes better in 3rd and 4th, not alot better in third but definitly better in 4th where torque is needed. 360 is king of second gear and reving harder, but will never peel rubber each time I shift if I'm movin' it. 390 feels way torqueier, and should do way better loaded. In the 1/4 mile the 360 managed 16.1 seconds, the 390 hasn't gone for a run yet, but I think if it's gonna do better which it will( or I'm selling it) it's gonna make up time in 3rd and 4th for a possibly slower launch since the 390 doesn't seem to whir high like the 360 does off the line in 2nd.

Never mind the not so big difference I jes remembered I tuned the carb on the 390 for good mileage when the price of gas shot up. I thought something wasn't in it place! I gotta sacrifice some good power to get 13-15+mpg, once she's back to 8mpg she will be hauling the 6 outta 360!!
