HPFP issues....

I know we don't see a ton of HPFP issues here in the 6.4 forum but some of you may want to stroll over to the 6.7 forum and read up, its EXTREMELY important to do your maintenance on time and drain your separator!!!!!!! And us a good additive!

Been there down that even with filter changes and adds. Mine died due to heat on wiring connections.

Heat on wiring?! Don't remember reading that on here.

This has absolutely nothing to do with your thread but dangit, I've been stuck seeing your avatar for ages now and by god, where is the full size version? We've been teased long enough and deserve some satisfaction here!

Yeah know its odd i read about it alot and feel bad for those 6.7 guys not just in this forum but many others aswell, and the 6.4 guys but Ive had the water light come on twice since i owned the the truck and i change the fuel filters every other oil change, I have drained the water separator 5 times including last week since i owned the truck, once the wife decided to fill it up with gas once and drove about 10 or 20 miles to our shop when she rolled in i know something was wrong.... and Ive yet to have any problems. Which includes one summer and winter on 50 to 75 percent homemade bio diesel and the spartan 210 tow tune with no issues from the HPFP. I'm not saying by any means my preventative maintenance plan is perfect but i do most of it by the book. Knock on wood probably should not have said anything........but figured id note In my experience with the HPFP in the 6.4...they seem pretty tough in my case or im just realy lucky... just sayin............ It makes me wonder just how bad these guys maintenance really is.

The first 6.7 that had a major issue at our local dealer was a turbo failure at 14,000 miles on the clock, caused by lack of maintenance the owner went 14,000 miles without changing the oil. Whipped out the doc,dpf and what ever else is in those things not to mention the 10k plus bill for a unwarrantable repair.... Simply said maintenance is always key even to a new truck

Good call slowmans, maintenance and fuel are extremely important! The HPFP drama currently going on in the 6.7L forum has more to do with warranty denials than anything else. Not that I can blame anyone, having to shell out $10k+ on a truck that's less than a year old is a tough one for anyone to swallow.

NOT cool.

We do have some but it appears not as many..at least for now.

Don't kid yourself. We are running the same basic setup. Just a different manufactor for the HPFP.

Drain monthly, watch your fuel source, filter changes consistently.

I too have never had the WIF light come on but I drain and change. Its the new religion.

I did a little research on the HPFP not too long ago, just to prepare myself incase something did go wrong. I found new, unused OEM HPFP's on ebay for less then $1,000. If you could find a good, trustworthy diesel garage that is willing to guarantee their work, you could probably get out of this mess for considerably less then the $8,000+ Ford dealerships are charging. Just a thought for anyone who comes across this problem. The 6.7 people are probably screwed though. I doubt aftermarket or surplus parts will be available cheap until Ford comes out with a new engine design.

When the pump fails like the ones you read about on the 6.7 forum, your going to require a lot more parts then just a $1,000 pump for the repair.

So far there's no evidence that the HPFP failures in the 6.7's are any more common than in the 6.4's. I think there have been a total of 3 reports so far of 6.7 L HPFP failures on the forum. Not a large number considering the number of 2011 and 2012 trucks on the road and the mileage people are starting to accumulate. Hopefully it's not the beginning of a widespread issue. Only time will tell.

What's got people all worked up is the cost of the repair ($10k to $12k) because the entire fuel system has to be replaced, along with Ford's refusal to cover the HPFP replacements under warranty. A single spot of rust inside the pump, or really anywhere in the fuel system, seems to be sufficient for warranty denial on the basis of water in fuel. The same thing would most likely happen for a 6.4 L HPFP failure.

And has. There have been a couple reports similar on the 6.4 as well where the HPFP was taken apart, rust was found and warranty denied.

Best thing to do at that point is get in touch with your insurance.

I think Ford learned a lot from the first HPFP'S they have made changes on installing new pumps. A lot of problems is not pumps but wiring on pumps, sencers.

Rust has been found in Ford tanks and on sending units. So why not warranty?

Rust = WIF. They don't warranty that.
