If I can afford it I want to buy one that's made in North America. Not sure if any exist. Saw a Snap-On recently that was made in UK but none from the US.
So, does anyone know if there are any readers out there that are made in the US, Canada, or Mexico?
If I'm spending hundreds of dollars on this I'd be happier if it stayed in my country (or a close ally at least)
i really like the auto engineuity laptop based scan tool.
it is a little pricy, but well worth it.
the ford bundle is $360
and the domestic bundle is $720
there is also a complete enhanced option that will do everything made, but the price is not listed for that.
talk to Clay at Riffraff diesel. he will help you out with whatever you decide on Riffraff Diesel: AutoEnginuity Domestic Bundle
What tjc says, virtually a necessity if you have a diesel truck. Unfortunately you will probably have to view data on an Asian made laptop.
If you want a made in USA code reader then have a look at Autoxray EZ-READ 1000 (maybe others in the Autoxray range as well).
X2 on the auto X-ray.
except you want at least the 6000ez-scan, preferably the AX7000
to read diesel trucks and engines. the EZ-scan 4000 will only read diesel codes. it will not do enhanced vehicle diagnostics. if i knew then how limited it is i would have gotten either the 6000 or 7000
you can get the 6000 EZ for $288, and the AX7000 for $256 at amazon.com.
Thanks, guys! All the info really helped me out here. I wasn't aware of the AutoXRay brand, but it looks really good and I think that's probably what I'll buy (was considering Matco MD1052 or MD9000A, maybe Innova).
I have mostly diesels but I like to take up a lot of passenger car jobs on the side. Diesel is a must but I'll be buying something that can do other stuff. There's some good stuff out there nowadays for a lot less $$ than I imagined. Computers suck, but I might as well be able to take advantage of their strengths too, right?
Gentlemen, I have decided to go with an AutoXRay 7000. It's been ordered and I should have it in my hands by this afternoon. I liked the features of it, which seem to be more than adequate for my current and future needs; the price is awesome, and it's made in USA (hadn't expected for a moment that I would find one made here).
I made my choice in no small part due to the very helpful comments posted in this thread. If it were not for these posts, I would not have even considered the model I ended up buying. Thanks to everyone for their advice.
A giant thanks to Tom for taking the time to come and show me his 4000 and how it can be used. Sir, please let me know if there's any way I can reciprocate.
