Fiberglass
Blake
It's important to get all the air bubbles out when working with glass and sometimes that can be tough.
I like to mix it in a 1qt plastic cup and use a brush to apply and I also like to use a thick fiber mat which must be fully saturated with the liquid.
The process is actually quick once the prep work is done. Glass usually hardens in about 20 min or so.
It sounds like your making something from scratch using a mold. I saw a demo on this on TV and it's actually not that hard.
A few tips when making something from a mold
Use a release agent, they use PAM cooking spray
Apply the fiberglass so that you get the liquid down into all the cracks/ vallies of the mold then apply mat or fibers.
It's best if the fibers to touch the outside face of the item as it doesn't sand smooth as well as the liquid does. In other words try to pour in a large amount of the liquid then add mat of fibers to add strength but be sure the fibers aren't pushed down too far so that the liquid remains at the bottom of the mold.
On the demo, they just use the loose fibers and gently tapped them into the liquid until they were submerged and it worked great.
