door seal mod.

well a few years ago i ordered door seals for my 78 from lmc. what a joke always reglueing them back up. well on my uncles 76 when we redid the truck years ago he never put door seals back in it. drove it 10+ years that way. well this winter i have had enough of the heater not keeping up and i put door seals in it. thing is i used the door seals off of his dead 91 f-150. they seem to work better cause they have that metal endge to them on the inside. this wasnt a bolt in job we had to cut the front part of the door sills off where the horseshoe shaped part is. worked great guys. if mine in my 78 make me mad enought im gonna do this on my truck as well. with that metal strip it seems to hold up and stay put better. im still new here but not to these trucks. who else has done this? and what if anything did you do differnt.

A buddy of mine with a few of these trucks told me about this trick a year or 2 ago. Haven't put the newer seals in either of my trucks yet but I've thought about it.

My buddy didn't say anything about trimming (probably knew I was smart enough to figure it out) but I'd also like to see pics of the "horseshoe" area you're talking about having to trim.

its on the door sills the chome deals that hold down the door seals at the bottom. its towards the front. it holds the seal against the kick panel. we trimmed it because the area where the two meet wasnt wide enough to use with the newer seals. ill try and get pics up i suck at computers so bear with me.

This sounds like a good mod for me to do, since 90's model trucks are plentiful at the U-Auto-Pull-It. Is the stripping glued into the 90's trucks, for that matter is it glued into our trucks? I haven't looked at it because I'm usually dealing with other issues and stuff. Does the stripping around the window channel from the 90's trucks fit ours too? The wind noise in my truck is ridiculous.

The bottom portion (goes across cab floor - across bottom of door) of the weather stripping in our trucks is glued in. In the later trucks I think this portion is screwed to the cab using the same screws as hold on the aluminum door trim things = the things above the "FORD" tailgate trim in this pic.

I don't know for sure on the window stuff - but that may be a good question. Hopefully someone else knows.

*edit* also, based on my pic above - what I think spikinfool05 was talking about trimming/cutting off was the portion of that aluminum trim piece that is all the way to the right in my pics. the part where they turn vertical & start going up the kick panel area.

thanks chasetruck you right on the money. i have been busy all day hauling and cutting fire wood and hedge post so no pics. jsutton the door seals in my uncles dead 91 were not glued in. as far as the anti rattle for the windows thats cheap enough for me im only takin one door apart to get to it. im not saying that some one with more time or patience couldnt get them to fit with out trimming the door seal, but for us these are still work trucks. kingofcows thanks for the video i need to upload some pics of your dentsides to share with the forum.

Bought my seals today from a 95 F150 I'm wondering about how you attached them at the bottom of the door opening. I know in the other thread about this subject he glued the bottom in place.

Thanks

Ok thats all I've done so far.

I was having hell trying to get the passenger side door readjusted to close right. I finally got it to were I could deal with it, and told myself I'd try some more another day. LOL Did you have any issue with that?
