I have a 1999 7.3 diesel. I have noticed recently that some times when I push on the accelerator pedal that it doesn't speed up the engine until I push it about 1"-2" but not all the time. Once nothing would happen at all even when I pushed it all the way down to the floor. I pumped it several times and then it finally caught. The service engine light came on when all this happened and then went off when it cleared up. Do I have a problem with the accelerator switch on the pedal or in the engine? I once saw a performance accelerator pedal switch advertised some place but can't find it anymore. Does anyone know where I can get a new switch other then at Ford? Are they expensive at Ford?
Thanks,
Paul

How about if everyone post replies here. I've had a little trouble with mine it seems like. I'm not sure but it feels like it has a dead spot. They are $189.00 from Ford I think. You have to get the whole pedal and everything.
My '02 just did the no throttle trick in St Lous, with my daughter driving. Luckily we have an extended warranty, so it was not too hard for her. They changed the throttle sensor and the cam sensor.
hey guys, I had this problem about 6 months ago. my psd is equipted with the movable pedels. (push a button and the pedels move forward and backward) I took it to the dealer they replaced the whole pedel assembly. fixed the problem never came back. Not but a week ago I got a notice from ford on this problem. They said that they are replacing these under a recall thing or something. So check it out with your dealer.
I had the same problem with mine too, but, mine would lack power too. They (mechanics) were working with the engineers on the problem. The engineers were in denial over the problem with the throttle. They told the mechanic that the pedal was not the problem. They would not let him replace it. After 14 trips to the dealer he finally replaced the pedal. It cured the inconsitancy problem, but, not the lack of power. Finally, they found the hydraulic pressure sensor a little out of spec, they replaced it and all is well. The early 6.0's have the same problem sometimes too. I have a '99 6spd. Bryan
I just had this same problem 2 days ago with my '02. Luckily enough, it started to work again after about 10 minutes of swearing and I was able to get it to the dealer for replacement of the sensor. Seems fine now.
When I described the problem to the tech, he knew exactly what the problem was. I'd guess they see this fairly often.
Hmmmmmm I have had this prob too as well as my accellerator "sticking" I was doing 70 on the interstate when it stuck....this happened about 6 mos ago and has not happened since. It was a bit scary at the time... I just turned off the key and turned it back on and it was fine.... I put it off to bugginess after I installed the Banks Power system.
Hey folks, I just got my truck back from the dealer yesterday. There is in fact a recall on the throttle sensor. I did not know this, the truck was in for something else, but I saw it on the receipt and asked about it. They just said it was a recall listed by Ford.
Go see your dealers before you put your money out!!!!
Yes I do have the moveable pedals. I bet that if enough people w/ out the moveable pedals are having the same prob, there will be a recall on them as well.
