Tim, Has the powermax been proven to work just as well without any tuning?
I've heard it both ways, Mike, but probably not. I've never driven but one (Jake's truck) and it had FICM tuning so it's not a fair comparison to stock. Still.....it didn't have any lag and great EGT's.

Ya, I was mostly concerned with a possible increase in turbo lag.
wayne as suggested powermax is a good way to go. if your looking for cheeper I have good used cleaned and ready to install. just send me a pm if you are intrested.
I was in your shoes a yr ago. I bought the rebuild kit from gpop shop and was going to rebuilt mine. After reading some more, I thought it would be better just to start fresh with the Powermax. I have been very happy. I could not notice a change in turbo lag, but I got it tuned within 2 wks so I may not have had a good chance to try it out. The powermax definitely has more whistle (if you like that).
I still have the old turbo with a blown turbo seal and the rebuild kit in my garage (if you're looking to do some work). If you follow the instructions from Benchwrench to clean it, it should be good as new. I've been saving it "just in case"... Dan
