I'm looking a buying an aluminum 7'x24' or a 8'x22 enclosed trailer, both of them will have 6',6" wall height. The dry weight of the trailers is between 2800-3200lbs. I will be adding another 2500lbs approx. in cargo for a total weight of 5700lbs-6000lbs.
1)Will I be able to pull this on flat ground with a 2005, FX4, crew, 5.4L. I'm not really concerned about the weight as much as the wind resistance.
2)Will I notice much difference between the 7' wide vs. the 8' wide.
Yes you will be able to pull it and pull it well on the flat ground. You could pull it up hill to with not a whole lot of trouble. As far as noticing the difference between the 7 or 8 foot wide I am not sure on that. If it was me I would go with the 8' wide trailer instead of the 7' but its your choice.
Just make sure you service you transmission regularly pulling this will put more strain but it will handle it fine and don't forget to take it out of overdrive while pulling this trailer.
If you go with the 8' wide trailer (that's what I would choose) I recommend adding or upgrading to tow mirrors. They will help you see more compared to the stock mirrors. And I agree completely with Drews post, the truck is plenty strong enough
Thanks for the comments. What tow mirrors would you recommend? Are the slip on type worth purchasing or should I change out the entire mirror. Also, will I be able to see much with the stock mirror on a 8' trailer if I didn't change them out right away.
If my hitch is rated for 5000lbs, should I look at upgrading this or should I not worry for the small amount that I will be over.

Tow mirrors would be a huge improvement over the stock. I plan to do these and I pull a small trailer. Follow link below to get to a nice set of mirrors.
I pulled a 6x10 and it was 7' high enclosed trailer from Iowa yto Texas with no problems. I was pulling close to 5500lbs total. The only thing that sucked was gas mileage. 8-10 MPG
