I just bought my new to me 2017 F250 and had the donks at Jiffy Lube change the diff oil at 44k miles, mainly because they said it was black and I have no idea how the previous owner treated the truck, although I do know he had oil changes and other minor things done at the dealer every 5k, there is no record of Rear Diff service.

I am SURE they did not use synthetic differential oil, so how long with occasional towing should I make the interval change? Owners manual says every 60K. You guys comfortable with that?

60K is what I use for the first time, Then 30K intervals thereafter for the rear.

You got taken to the cleaners with the rear diff svc. Was not needed. If this truck is a diesel, better check the filter. If you had the fuel filters changed, you better check that too.

6.2 gasser....I figured it didn't need it yet, but no harm done...I think. They also told me I needed coolant change at 50k miles. I laughed and said everyone knows it is 100k for first change and she said, "Well, we check it at 50k and if it is good we leave it alone,": LMAO.

Again, I didn't know how much towing previous owner did, so it wouldn't hurt, and it turns out it was synthetic so I should be able to run with it until around 100k now.

certainly didn't hurt it to change early.

I'm not sure why, but the factory oil always comes out black as tar. I think it has to do with the additives they use, but you would see that on a brand-new truck as well. Good call declining the coolant service, that would also have been totally unnecessary.

I agree, but remember even though I have service records from the dealer I bought this truck used and have no idea what previous owner did besides change the oil every 5k miles (good on him). Hell he could have been towing every day, but I think it showed 888 miles of towing out of 44k so the rear diff likely could have waited, but when I buy a used vehicle I immediately do a lot of things - Like:

Change Oil to Mobil 1 Syn
Fill with Shell 93 octane fuel
In this specific case buy and install a new tow receiver and hitch (CURT Class V and Bulletproof respectively)
Having LineX installed in stock bed
Will at some point in relatively near future change shocks (due to significant exterior rust on shocks)
Other fluids appear to be in ok condition at the moment and due to dealer prep all the recalls have been completed including the 3 on the block heater that I will never use anyway...

Just me and how I treat my vehicles. I get a bit ....retentive.
