I changed the rear exhaust pipe, muffler and tail pipe on my 1997 Aerostar Van with the 3.0 L engine. Right after completing the repairs the check engine light came on. I reset the computer by disconecting the battery for a couple of minutes. The light stayed off for a couple of days and then came back on. Any ideas on what is causing this problem?
With the advent of OBD II (which you have), it is no longer possible to reset the computer by disconnecting the power. Some of the OBD II code readers can do this. If you have access to one, pull the code, reset the computer and see if the light comes back on.
I will have to take it into the garage as I don't have access to a reader. Right now the light has gone out and I am waiting to see if it comes back on. It did this once before but came back on about 15 minutes later. This time it seems to be staying off
