New Hyperax Install/Rebuild
Well i finally put my turbo on that i bought a few months ago. 20 hours later and no sleep got me no where. The bearings went out about 20 miles later and started whining and grinding like mad. Anyways i took it off again and tore down the turbo. Its the older style hypermax, pre pulse, and I'm wondering, does anyone have these? I've tried looking all over the web and a bunch of different forums for info on these, like boost numbers, realibilty, ect. It says on the inside of the compressor wheel thats its made from garret, did they make these?? Also, since Im rebuilding it is there anything performance wise i can do to it? like bigger comp wheel or something? Diesel shop down the road said it can be rebuilt stock for $3-600...

Whats the MM size on the turbo? Was it used? I own an eclipse thats pretty modded out so i know a fair bit about them, but ive yet to put a turbo on my diesel. Any ways, if the barring blew out which is what sounds like happened, unless it was the comp blades, but i doubt it cause youd know that one pretty quick. Anyways if its a blown barring, i would make sure your turbo is big enough, i would def make sure of that before you have someone rebuild it for 3-600... Btw, you can buy another one for like 300 if you shop around pretty hard.
