How much oil does a '74 360 need?

How much oil does a '74 360 need?
Hello all..
I am wondering how much oil a '74 360 needs. 5 quarts?
My dip stick tube was removed and doesn't seem to be all the way back in.
I put 5 quarts in and it only come up to the "ADD" mark after sitting over night.
Does the engine need more oil, or is the tube just not in far enough?

How much oil does a '74 360 need?
I must restate.
I put five in, then added another quart when the dipstick showed WAY down, NOW it is between the "ADD" circles.
