When I came back from Iraq Sirius called and offered a lifetime subscription for my portable unit for 300 bucks. I was all over that.
I would spend that again on the unit in the truck if they were to offer. When my comp subscription runs out, Im going to offer that to them!

There is an issue you could run into...
I also had a portable unit, the one where you could set up to record daily. It was very nice. After about 2 years of ownership, I ran into an issue with the device and Sirius' own FAQ said I needed to update the firmware on it. Now, granted, I am very proficient with computers, servers, electronic devices and have upgraded firmware/BIOS on many, many servers/devices. The firmware upgrade completed successfully but it ended up bricking my Sirius portable device.
I called Siruis' tech support and the only advice they could give me was to power cycle it. I asked for them to escalate the issue to one of their more experienced techs and was told there is no one like that. They would not help me with it even when I went through the motions to cancel my account...the only offer they would give me was to buy a new device, no discounts. That treatment was to someone who was a customer of theirs for 6 years with multiple Sirius radios. So, that account was canceled and I continued to get phone calls to "come back" even though my device was bricked.
"But, we can sell you a similar device for $300-$400 plus the subscription fee."
So, a lifetime subscription does not always mean lifetime but hopefully you do not have to go through what I went through.
I never even activated it. I have music on a USB stick if I want some but most of the time I enjoy the peace and quite. I'm really even sure how to fully operate the radio!
Thanks! I have always had great luck with Sirius cust. svc. I plan on being a lifetimer...I also plan on keeping my 2012 till Im close to dying. So I think Ill pony up the lifetime sub. if I can get it. If not Ill be putting my portable docking kit in.
Wow sounds like some of you are getting pretty good deals. Up here in Canada I had three subscriptions. One was $9.95/month and the other 2 were $14.95/month, all on the same account. I tried and tried to get better deals and even once I'd decided to cancel they wouldn't do anything. Must be the Canadian way of screwing the customer. I honestly don't miss the service and wouldn't re-subscre regardless of the offer.
I just called them and tried to convert my existing account to a lifetime plan. They said they are no longer offering the lifetime plan. According to the rep, this ended in 2012.

When I called it ended way before that... July 1, 2009 was the end of new lifetime subscriptions.
I let mine expire and then waited for them to call and played the game. Ended up with $30 for 6 months ago a few months ago. It was with an automatic renewal at the regular price. I will cancel before the renewal and then play the game again. Sounds like the best deal now is $25 for 6 months.
The best way to pay is with a prepaid visa. Load the visa with just enough to pay them. When the sub expires and they go to hit you with the full price, it will get rejected and you don't get a surprise charge showing up.

I wonder if the Mayans will get blamed for that too?
I have been an XM customer for 8 or 9 years. Four subscriptions. I like my baseball play by play. So, when, (not so), Sirius took over XM I figured they would offer the MLB channels as well. Oh no! I have argued in depth many times with Srius/XM regarding their policy not to offer MLB on Sirius accounts, to no avail.
Also, they will not recognize my multiple radios I have with XM and give me a discount plan for the Sirius radio. Needless to say, I will not be a Sirius customer as long as they can't figure out how to run their business. I constantly receive the 6 months for $25 offer and just pitch em in the trash.
Screw Sirius! They suck. If you have a smart phone, use Pandora. Much better. Or hook a Flash drive in your truck if you have USB connections.
Agree. I have written insanely long rants about Sirius before, but it's like if you ordered Satellite-delivered TV (paid Ku-band DTH services) but you couldn't watch any terrestrial TV stations... you had to watch channels and programming that the satellite television provider felt that you wanted, only on channels that they made up and they programmed. And at a lower bit rate than an online stream. Sirius offers a few channels... such as CNN, Bloomberg, CBC, Weather loop that are sourced externally but the rest of the content is produced in-house.
if you have a smartphone you can stream pandora for free (if you have unlimited data plan). That is what I run in my patrol truck....great radio, very few ads and I have no complaints
When mine expired and I started getting the phone calls no special deals were offered.
Don't really miss it. Have a 64GB iPod up in the dash. Any new music downloaded is easily played through the BT on the phone.
Also use Pandora, i'Heart Radio and my local radio station app for 24/7 streaming tunes.
iHeart has many stations under their umbrella.
When the need fuel indicator lights up all the gas station icons still pop up on the Nav unit, so the subscription doesn't work for that.
I also use GasBuddy on the phone to find fuel.
The weather isn't that great. I use XM weather with my Garmin during bike season. Real time Doppler radar and accurate up to the minute info.
