I have an 05 Ford F-150 4x4 Lariat 4 door with well over 188,000 miles on it and it has had minimal problems. Three spark plug changes and a couple COP's and a couple injectors is all it had done to it. The first spark plug change three plugs broke off but the dealership only charged $275.00 which was not too bad. Regular maintenance is the key. I had a 99 Ford Expedition which I sold at 103,000 miles and it was a trouble free vehicle. I didnt even change the plugs on that truck.

Oh ya, i did quite a few tunes ups on the old v-10s at work. I hate when people use acronyms instead of what its supposed to be.

Yeah, it can get confusing sometimes if ya aint up on the terms, or regularly use them, but COP has been used for yeeeeeeeeeeears, so it's not really even thought about when we do it.

Sorta like shortening the term catalytic converter to just Cat.

If you really hate acronyms, don't hang out in the '99 - '03 7.3L PSD forum. Acronyms in that forum are a HUGE way of life! You'd need a cheat sheet!

Aint that the truth lol. I know PSD acronyms because i do work on the from time to time but truth be told...besides a few 7.3 Super Duties, my girls 04 Ranger and moms 03 Xploder sport i dont touch anything newer. Even at work we never got in depth to much on the new stuff except out fleet of shuttle buses.

BTW, plus and COPs (lol) on a V-10 sucks when its in an E-series.

Heh, just look at my sig for a small (very, very small) taste of acronyms used by the 7.3L crowd.

Ouch, I can imagine!

I hear about the difficulties of the 7.3L PSD in the E series rigs, versus the F trucks.

I will say this as someone coming from a '01 7.3 to the newer f150. IF YOU DO NOT NEED THE DIESEL, THEN DON'T BUY ONE. They are one hell of a workhorse, and to find a 7.3 with less than 150,000 is pretty rare. If you do find one, they are usually beat to death from where they have been worked non-stop their entire life. The diesel is nice, but maintenance is outrageous and if it needs any repairs, you are going to get into some big bucks.

With that said, my f150 only has 42000 on it right now and I have not had any problems. I bought it used, and the dealership I bought it from gave me a great warranty on it. I think it goes up to 92,000 miles. So I'm hoping that they will be the ones sorting out any common issues that it has (by the way it has no knock or tick and hasn't had spark plugs yet). I absolutely love mine, and would recommend one to anyone. They are all around good trucks.

May have found a truck, its a 2006 F150 FX4 supercab short bed silver/gray 5.4 black interior with 31,000 miles. Looks absolutly fantastic and the miles are great.

Dealing specifically with the 06's and FX4s anything i should look for? Gunna run the VIN on carfax and get a ford oasis report.

I have an 06 XLT EC 4x4 and have had very little problems. Replaced the transfer case shift motor under warranty and driver door and passenger door power window switches after warranty ran out. I also replaced the front pads and rotors. Had quite a bit of pad left, but the rotors were warped badly so that was as good of time as any to put on ceramic pads and lose the brake dust. The 06's still have the spark plug issues with the 3-valve engines and some have had phaser issues as well. Mine has been trouble free enginewise thus far. But I only have 49K miles on it.

This is basically my truck but I have the crew instead of the super cab. Mine has been great no issues to speak of yet and when I bought it had 25k on it now with just over 80k on the ticker.

Awsome. Ill let it warm up before i drive it and see if i hear anything funny. Also test the 4wd.

Found out it has 3.73 gears and a rear limited slip...dont know if that was standard but im pretty happy it doesnt have airplane gears. I also fell in love with the FX4 interior. A friend of mine is looking at an FX4 but black and an 05 i think.

Already have a mental mod list ready to go lol...and i dont even know if i am getting it.
- Harley Davidson headlights
- Black billet grill
- Black third brake light
- Level kit
- Bilstien shocks
- Tonneau cover
- 09 F150 emblems

Id like an exhaust but i think im gunna stay away from engine mods and leave it be...everything else i own is modified some way engine/drivetrain wise and i want something stock and realible.

3.73 L/S is standard on the FX4's. I have 3.55 L/S in mine. I have been thinking of changing upholstery to the dark charcoal cloth from an FX4 as the cloth interiors on the XLT's look crappy in my opinion. I also have the 36 gallon fuel tank on mine. That's really nice when you are towing as it gives you more range.

Congratulations! You'll love the F150 like I do! Welcome to the 04-08 club.
Got mine last summer with 29K and now I just turned to 39K earlier this evening. Loving every mile of it! I had to cough up $ for blend door aculator earlier this winter, after couple days, the pain had gone away.

Going to look at it Friday and talk price. They are asking $21,995 which seems high...but NADA values it at almost dead on the same. Being its at a Subaru dealer, im sure it was a trade in and they only gave the PO like 15K at the most im gunna low ball at 17K n go from there but no more than 19K. Hope they bite, if not i am going to pass and look elsewhere.
