1952 blue Paint color????

striping and painting my 1952 F1, it has been previously painted a darker blue (non stock/original), however the gas tank and shelf behind the seat are all original paint and it is a lighter blue, ie a baby blue or "Glacier Blue". I cant find this color anywhere in the original color list. Maybe it is a late 1952 and the Glacier Blue from the 1953's was used?

Whats your opinion, anyone have any pics of your truck in this color 1952 or 1953?

Puzzled

You sure it's not Sheridan Blue? I can't remember if it included 1952 as well. Here's an old thread that I found interesting.

Yes I saw that link when I originally searched. I acutally like that color, howver mine is a very much lighter blue or sky blue, similar to the background color on the box above that has our user names and my listing as "junior user"

Are you sure your truck is a '52? In '51 there was Silvertone Gray. This was the original color on a couple of my '51s and it looks light blue. A really nice color imho. Here's a pic of a '51 painted this color that I lifted from eBay. In '52 there was Woodsmoke Gray, which is the original color of the truck in my sig. block, but it's really gray. Like battleship gray. Stu

WOW! What a good looking truck!

Now I am confused on the color choice as yours also looks light blue. I am positive my truck is a 1952 per the SN and Title. The gas tank and shelf behind the seat have never been repainted so I know I am a "light blue" I just dont know which one to have my painter order.

As I've thought about this for my own trucks, modern cars that have a very similar color are the new(er) VW Beetles. Sort of a cross between blue and gray. Nice looking. Stu

Dear Puzzled,

This has been the best reference for all your stock paint questions. Be sure to think of me often.

Hey, he posted the other day in the Y-Block forum.

Then he ran away again. Earl's world still helps me out regularly.
Speaking of which, I need to revive that thread to see how the truck is doing.

With all due respect, paint swatch links don't show up very well on the computer screen. It's hard enough to tell what they look like when you have have the originals in hand. Here's a truck that's the '52 Woodsmoke Gray to show what it looks like. Stu

Well, color me puzzled 2. (sorry, I couldn't help it)

After seeing that beautiful Silvertone Gray F1, I'm thinking about changing my plans to paint my truck Vermilion (I just LOVE red trucks).

But the puzzling part is that I have the Ford description for paint schemes on 51's wherein the grille and headlight bodies are to be a neutral ivory. In a thread found during my search for more info on Silvertone Gray, I saw a post here saying the grille and headlight bodies are Argent (pewter) on the 51 5-Star Extra.

Can someone tell me which color is correct? I'm thinking it's ivory, but Argent might look better.

Boy Joe, you're asking for it now! Where's Julie when we need him? If you want to do the search there's old threads with arguments about this. Anyway, as best I recall (guys jump on me if you wish) the '51s started the year Argent with chrome headlight doors and marker surrounds. When Korea came along chrome was a war commodity so Ford changed the grilles to Sungate Ivory and painted the headlight doors Argent. I've also seen the marker light surrounds painted Ivory, so who knows whether each plant did things exactly the same way. I too have an Argent grille from a parts truck and like them better on '51s. Stu, I specifically did not reference Julie in my post so as not to reignite the flame. Actually, before I submitted the post, I had made reference to where I saw that Argent (pewter) claim, but decided not to post it, and edited it. I don't know enough about that situation to comment, but I know I don't want to reopen it.

So, since I'm not going to have a "stock" stakebed on my truck, I guess I can paint the grille any color I want. My wife wants me to have it chromed. (yes, she's wonderful)

I'll support Stu and state that in everything that I've read and seen, argent was used in the beginning of the 51 production year. The cream color, which is supposed to be close to Ford's Wimbledon White color, was used on late 51 grilles and throughout 52. I have a 51 Panel that is completely stock (except for the wheels) and it has the original cream colored grille, but chrome headlight trim rings. It's possible that the trim rings were replaced sometime during its lifetime. The marker light surrounds are unpainted metal.

Sorry for hijacking your thread...

OK, so that settles it. I'm gonna paint the grille and "teeth" Argent silver. It will look better than Ivory with whatever color I paint the truck. My headlight trim rings are already chrome, as are the marker light surrounds. At this point, I don't know what was stock.

Going back to the original question, I don't know what the name of the paint is, but my '53 is still the original color and I have always described it as "baby blue". Is this a color used in 52 & 53?
