Starting problem
Hi i have a 1990 ford f150 4x4 302 v8 the truck starts fine if its cold or been sitting for at least a hour or so but if i drive around for say about 1/2 hour and shut it off and then try to roll it over it acts like the battery is almost dead and wont usually roll over until it has cooled down then it will start fine. i have replaced both the positive and ground cables from the battery because they were corroded and it seemed to help some. I dont personally think its the starter and i dont want to replace unless i find it necessary its the second starter since new. i know it aint the battery because if i let it cool down it will roll over no problem just wonderin if anyone else has had this problem and what the cause may have been thanks for any input

Starting problem
Do you have headers on your truck? It sounds like the starter is getting too hot. I had a similar problem with a '69 Mercury Cyclone after I crammed a 429 into it. I actually smoked the insulation off the positive battery cable trying to get it to turn over. I replaced about 4 starters in 6 months or so, until I bought a high torque starter and built a heat shield around it to keep the temperature down a bit.
