It's beginning to appear that this truck may NOT have a 351 in it. From the feedback I've gotten on the engine board, it may have a 302. It also has an auto with o/d. I'm on the road right now, but as soon as I get back I'll have to run the VIN. I didn't even realize there was a VIN decoder on this board, until the last message.
My '83 list doesn't have anything beginning with "7", so that must have been a new-for-'84 axle option, but everything ending with "2" is 4.10. If you want this document, send me your e-mail address. I also have a 2002 VIN document, but it doesn't have the door sticker codes.
Is your truck fuel injected, if so then chances are its a 302 with the aod trans, I had this combo in my 86 F150 4x4 and the previous owner just told me that the engine packed it in with about 350,000km's on it. The good thing is he had another 86 F150 with that engine and swapped it in and its running great.
You will have great luck with this truck, one thing I can let you know is if at any point the truck starts shaking violently doing about 40-60 kph then check the #8 plus, mine kept filling with oil (apprently this was a common problem on them) but I would give it a wipe and put in a new plug and get another year out of it.
