Just wondering what some realistic HP and torque numbers are possible with the 300. I don't mean as a drag motor but more for reliable towing, say 24'-26' travel trailer. Right now mine is a box stock 85 with all the EEC/TFI stuff intact. I would want to keep it reliable and with decent fuel mileage. Right now it's getting around 18.5 hiway, better than my cousins 05 Hemi , and would like to keep that as high as possible. Just trying to make a plan for future upgrades. Maybe even upgrade to a factory type EFI with a stand alone controller and turbo setup. Like I said, this is just trying to get numbers for a possible future build to see if it's going to be worth it.
I was told by a guy who used to race these motors in the 80s, but he said my motor with the same setup and 1.7 rocker arms & bigger valves naturally aspirated should make 300-350 HP. With the turbo at 12 psi boost at least 450 to 500 and massive torque. Im planning on running it on propane as well... Price wise Im looking at about $200 in machine work $200 for other parts to have the short block ready with .040 over hypeurtectic pistons and moly rings, arp rod and head studs, and a steel layer head gasket.
That would be nice if you can get it. It sounds a bit optimistic to me, but that's just my opinion. I was thinking more in the 200-250, maybe 300HP range. It takes some doing to achieve 450-500hp. Even the the new 5.0 Shelby Mustang is only doing about 500hp with a blower.
Yea those are high guestimates but i will be using water methanol injection and it would be a flywheel number but I do have high hopes for it after reading an article that guy I talked to wrote back in the 80s when he raced these motors on top fuel. I actually have the magazine but on fordsix.com its all there plus more and he posts great advice on there as well about all of the ford inliners
