On my 98 expedition I am not able to turn off my interior light with my doors or hatch open. I know it turns off after 45 minutes , but that keeps reseting every time someone opens a door at tailgate partytime...Has this been changed on newer models?? I love this site
The new trucks have a headlight switch that allows you to turn off the dome lights. it is on the dimmer part of the switch. You just turn it down past the "dim" setting and they go off.
I would assume you could replace your switch with that one.
Every vehicle I have ever owned has had a switch like that. Some engineer tried to improve a dome light...Only to justify his existance by going back to the original and calling "THAT" an improvement.
Stinkfoot, ther is a modification that you can do to the rear hatch part of the dome light system. I have already done it. As far as the doors go, I have not seen any mods that you can do to that part of the system. They are operated independently from each other. The mod for the rear hatch is as follows...... Remove rear pillar trim off drivers side, this is the peice of plastic that goes right along side of the rearmost window. Then look for the white wire with the purple stripe on it. Cut the wire, and install a rocker switch in the pillar cover. Wire one end to one side of the switch, and the other to the other side. When you open your hatch( entire door assembly) you can then flip the switch and turn off all the lights. The nice thing about this is, if you forget to flip the switch back it is no big deal, your door light will still operate as usual. I do alot of construction work, and my rear door stays open when I'm on the site, so this is an extremely usefull mod! Hope this helps!
I'm hooking up this little trick right now, I had to come back inside and make sure what color wire to cut. I've got a white and green, but haven't found the white and purple yet...
Glad y'all like my little interior light trick. My Dad actually found it several months ago and I posted it here-it works very well, is very easy to do and I find that I use it more than I thought.
