I have had my 08 F250 SD V10 for a month now and for the first time last night coming home from a friend’s place I tried the kick down. I was trying to pace another car when the RPM’s reached 3K the engine just died. Let off of the pedal and it regained power. Tried it a few more time on my way home and every time the RPM’s reached 3K the same thing happened. Couple of weeks ago the check engine light came on. I brought it to the dealer and the cat needed to be changed (warranty) thank god. I’m no mechanic and before I drop it off I would like your opinion on what you think might be the problem. By the way, I’ve had a 02 F150 with 5.4 and that truck seemed to have more guts than this V10 and from what I have read on this forum that shouldn’t be the case. Thanks in advance, Kevin
well the engine should easily spin to almost 6000RPM, if you cant get over 3000 without it cutting out or just plain not going over that, then you def. have an issue..
without a code scanner your kind of at the mercy of the dealer to figure out whats up..
might be worth your time to have new plugs/fuel/air filters installed along with a good MAF cleaning
My 08 was doing the same thing changing the fuel filter improved it for a little while but same problem showed up again. Finally dropped the gas tank and both strainers on the fuel pump were covered in crap from bad gas at one time, replaced them both and it runs as it should now.
I tried the kick down the next day and this time it didn't die.
When I had the truck I for the check engine light it was pluged in and the only code was for the cat.
The truck has only 37K miles, what should I have the dealer do as far as maintanance at this point. Not sure what kind of life it had prior to me buying it.
