Had a strange issue installing my CD player today, tell me if anyone else had this problem and maybe how you sorted through it.
I purchased a JVC head unit and what I thought would be the appropriate wiring for the job. MET 80-1770 was what everything I found said I needed... however, what I found was the connectors for the radio were unlike the ones on the harness I purchased. The factory radio AM/FM/Cassette/PushButton looks almost hard wired in. So far, I have resigned myself to fabricating my own harness connecters... which is not a problem. I just thought spending $15 would save me 30 minutes. Is there a harness connecter that works with the connecters in my 1986 F150 XLT, mine are the little "cube" connecters and not the long rectangle connecters.
There could be a adapter harness out there, but you will to search to find it. Ford unlike other manufacturers, changed their radio harness a lot, almost year to year in some instances. It causes a lot of headache for radio installers. They didn't even keep the same color codes.
im hopeing i dont need a new radio. my radio is really quiet at some times and then out of nowhere it will get very loud! It scares the hell out of me and i need to find out how to fix it. Also my casette player has a static sound to it when i play casettes?
Those MET 80-1770 things look like what was eventually used on the trucks in the 90s.
Pickup trucks were historically the last vehicles to be modernized - by this, I mean things like key-in-ignition buzzer, power steering & brakes, power windows, etc. etc. etc.
The more-expensive luxury cars were always the first.
Those rectangular things, I've seen those on early-90s Taurus cars, *possibly* on late-80s Lincolns.
