I have a 1989 Ranger Custom. The headlights are not working. The under dash fuses are okay. I am looking for a 40 Amp fuse in the Power Distribution Box on the right side under the hood, but can't find the PDB where it is supposed to be. Is it located somewhere else? Are there any other things I should be looking for like a fusible link instead?
I have a Ford users manual that shows a diagram of a Power Distribution Box. In that box is a 40 Amp "Headlamp Switch Feed" fuse. I also have a Chilton's manual schematic that shows a 40 Amp Fuse in the Power Distribution Box that is inline with the "Main Light Switch." I also happen to own another Ranger that "does" have this fuse where the book says it is supposed to be so yes Fords "do" have fuses for the headlamps, I just can't find it on this Ford.
However, in the absence of a PDB I will try looking at the switch. Thank you.
I just got through looking for the PDB under the hood, looked thoroughly around the wheel well. Must not have one. Tried to remove the headlamp switch by going thru the fusebox mounting hole. It is pretty well fastened in there. Will probably have to take it in since I don't have the time to tear apart the dash to get it. Anyway, the 90 Ranger I have, the PDB "is" on the fender well and it is only about one row of fuses wide but yeah the diagram does sort of look like it.

Tried replacing the headlight switch to fix the light problem...no go. As per advice of a friend, I tried replacing the combination turn signal/dimmer switch on the steering column and walaa!!! That fixed the problem.
