paint to sell, or don't paint?
I am not selling my truck right now.
If I were to sell though, would you get more with new paint? It seems that when you see a nice older truck with fresh paint, the metal quality is questioned. Then people proceed to talk the price down because of it.
If you leave it original paint with minor dents and dings, then you get talked down because it needs paint.
Kind of a catch 22. What would be the best way to get the most for our trucks? I know they do not bring a lot of money to begin with.

Recouping the cost of a paint job is nearly impossible when selling a vehicle. Plus, as you said, it makes buyer wonder about the stuff that could be hidden under the paint/body work.
Older paint that is in decent condition can sometimes be brought back to looking fairly nice with a good buffing and waxing. Car lots do this type of thing all the time, as the cost is easy to recoup and then some.
Of course, if the paint is too far gone, there's not much can be done with it.
In the grand scheme of things, a person looking for a vehicle may claim that looks aren't that important, but how a vehicle looks is a lot more important than they will admit.

If I did paint, I would do it myself. The cost would not be that much since I have hookups at the supply houses. I may not sell for a few more years. I guess if I do it, it has to be for me, not someone else.

Besides, if you were to paint it, you might decide to hang onto it a while longer......
Can't really tell from the pic, but that paint might be decent enough to look good with a buff and wax.....

That's the key words right there- do it if you want to. If you're asking for buyer opinions, leave it as it is. I may walk into a deal with a rough body expecting a reduced, but I'm comfortable with what I'm getting. A truck with that has fresh body work is going to make me more suspicious.
Owner's opinion- I'd leave it. I'm painting one of my cars this year, but it's a cherry and one that I plan on owning until one of use breaks into pieces. Something that I use for utility or every day, much less one I wasn't planning to keep, I wouldn't spend the $. Take the cash you would drop on paint and wrap up some odds and ends in the suspension, ignition, etc. As a buyer I prefer sturdy to pretty.
