bed options

So, in another thread, I found out that my truck was never a dually. Ideally, I would like to make it back into a single wheel truck, but I am torn about what to do with my bed. The bed floor and structure of mine is good, so if I pull the dually flares off, I was thinking I could just buy some bedside repair panels and weld them on and mud'em in. problem with this is that it costs money to get the panels and I would like to do it as cheap as possible. The other option is to get regular bed somewhere and mount that. Ideally i would sell mine for break even money. That probably would be muchh less time consuming. Finally, most costly (afaik) is the idea of building a custom bed. This is my last choice and I would rather save this for the future. I would like to hear some opinions as to why I should do it one way over another

Why not shop around. If you find a good bed for cheaper than you could fix yours then buy the bed. Why not leave it a dually. I know you said someone else converted it over, but how good of a job did they do. If it was a hack job then I could understand putting it back the way it should be. However if there isn't really too much wrong with it now then the cheapest option would be to leave it as it is.

Well, it wanst a hack job since it was done by ford. I don't really mind the dually, but I would prefer a srw truck. Tires are cheaper, better in the snow, easier to get into the garage etc. I found a year matching rust free bed...now just to see how much they want for it.

Just for your info, beds from 80 thru around 96 will fit, 80 thru 86 being a exact match, and 87-up having a little different arch design over the rear wheel.

Yeah, seems like there are a ton of beds out there, I just don't want to take a huge step backward in terms of rust. I am going to try to find an 80-86 just to keep the body lines consistent.

you could go aftermarket steel or more costly aluminum flatbed.
