I was looking around and saw that Amsoil has a by pass oil filter for up to 9 quarts. I was wondering if anyone has used a bypass filter to help keep the oil clean longer and less oil changes. I know a guy that has a F350 and he has one but not a amsoil and he showed us what 6500 miles on his oil looked like and it looked like it was just changed. I figured If I got one for my 2002 F150 SuperCrew and could benfit from it I might want to look into it.
What exactly is a by-pass filter for? Seems to me that, if you bypass the filter it wouldn't clean the oil. I installed a remote oil filter on my truck and now have seven quart capacity--maybe that helps...
Going to a bi-pass filter system may do more damage than good. First, your oil pump will be required to pump the oil thru it. Your pump is not going to pump more oil than it does now so something in the engine is going to do with less oil. While it does keep the oil cleaner, it does not improve the TBN of the oil and you might be tempted to run an oil longer that "looks good" but in fact, is out of the ability to neutralize the contaminates in the engine. Should you decide to install one, go with the complete system including the oil package and I'm sure you know that any warranty on your truck is gone.
Ok thanks. Flash what you talking about when you say if I decide to do thay go with the complete system with oil package? Also If I wanted a remote filter where could I get one? From the dealer or are there aftermarket company's that sell them.
The only reason to have one is for extended oil changes. The Amzoil dual filtration system is a good unit should you decide you want one. Parts and replacement elements are available from any Amzoil dealer. Go with Amzoil oil as well as it is not going to give you the desired results using another brand synthetic.
I got my remote oil filter kit from www.summitracing.com. I am sure it was made by perma cool, www.perma-cool.com as both kits look identical. Took about four hours to install and I now have seven quart capacity.
