Lightbulb Water Temp. sending unit

I've got a problem with my 94 F150 Water temp. gauge. I'm not getting a indication. I think it's the sending unit. It's on the 4.9 (6 cylinder) motor. But I can't find that little dude........

Where is it............

There are two temperature sensors on the truck. One is for the gauges and the other is for the engine control. The one for the gauges is located on the right side of the engine and will have a red/white wire on it.

OK that's great news.. the right side facing the truck? I replaced the oil sending unit that was bad on the lower back side of the engine block on the drivers side. I see the sending unit to the engine control next to the distributor. But for some reason I still can't find the other sending unit.....

Kevin; The gauge sending unit is on the HEAD! Back (REAR) of the Engine on the PASSENGER (RIGHT) side of the engine, BELOW the Intake/exhaust manifold ports for #6 cylinder.

Pull the wire off and with the key to ON (not start), ground the wire. If the gauge swings to the opposite side (overheated) then the gauge is good and the sending unit bad. If the gauge doesn't move the gauge or wiring to it is bad, worn, corroded.

In any event the sensor is cheap (<$5.00) so it's cheap insurance to go ahead and get it anyway.

Make sure all grounds are clean and shiny, and if any look iffy, replace the wire and connectors.

Larry

It's on the right side looking at the truck if your looking at the back of the truck. When someone refers to which side something is on a vehicle, they should be telling you right for passenger side and left for drivers side. That is the universal standard.

L & R on a vehicle is always from the operator's point of view.
