I tow a trailer all day every day and have always used diesel work trucks, but with the price of diesel, I am seriously considering going to a F550 with a gas engine. I am currently driving a 2009 F450 with a 6.4 and am getting about 8 mpg while towing, and I figure a V10 couldn't be any worse than that.

Are there any drawbacks that I should know to going to a V10 in a F550?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on what year you get. A brand new F550 triton V10 I have seen multiples and they do good. But if you want older it depends on what year. The triton V10 is a very powerful engine. My family has a 2002 F250 4x4 Crew cab Triton 10 and it has plenty of power for everything we do so much that we are looking at getting another one like it but a 2005. Others will probably tell you the problems that can come up but ours has 131,000 miles on it and it hasn't had any problems. But I think the brand new ones use a 3 valve V10 which so far I have heard minimal problems that can happen.
