I am putting a 5.0 302 engine in my 60 Ford. The tranny set up that is in the truck if for a hydraulic clutch. What year or what tranny (4 or 5 speed) can I use so i can keep the same set up? The tranny that came of of the mustang is a cable lever
The bolt-on bellhousing with provision for hydraulic clutch linkage is a rare bird. I've been searching for a few years and have only seen 2. I didn't have time to buy the first one and the second one was priced WAAAAY too high. I may have a line on another one, but it's MINE!
As far as I know, the only transmission that will bolt up to that bellhousing is the NP-435, but the BW T-18/19 might also.
The Mazda M5OD and ZF S5-42 have integral bellhousings and concentric slave cylinders, which are less desirable. Only the big-block ZF had an external slave, but any ZF is extremely expen$ive.
Check Novak's knowledge base for specific sizes & info, and Motive for applications.
Steve: All the F-series trannies with removable bellhousings run the same trans to bell bolt pattern, input shaft legnth and spline count etc, they all fit that bellhousing. Just have fun finding it.

It sounds like it might be a better route just to convert the pedal setup out of a mustang or something that uses a clutch cable and put it into the truck. If this is true, any suggestions on previous mods like this and maybe what car or truck the pedals came from?
Thanks for your help.
McLeod clutch makes an internal hydraulic clutch slave cylinder and throwout bearing which bolts (or slips. Depends on the type you prefer) on the snout of the trans. This places the throwout bearing inside the bellhousing, and you route your lines out throught the bellhousing. I ran one of these on the Toploader in my Torino for years, and I'm running one on the TKO in my Torino. No problems and no complaints. Might be what you're looking for since it will let you keep your current clutch pedal etc.

They also have a very knowledgable tech line, and they can take your order over the phone too. I'm not affiliated with them, but I've always had good experiences with them and their products.

if you wanted the '60 ford for speed...then you can swap in a toploader 4sp. or toploader 3sp. w/ od. they are very strong trannys. if you want a trans for pulling or offroad then swap in the borgwarner T18/19 or np435. all the trannys i have listed need the removeable bellhousing and the manual clutch linkage.
