I noticed a thread on a different forum, from a couple of years ago, concerning the cold "cackle" noise. One poster said he wired a 9k ohm resistor (switched) across the oil temp sensor and it greatly reduced his cold run noise. His thinking is the change in fuel delivery/timing was the cause. When the motor warms up he switches back to normal.
Has anybody heard of this, done this?
It is fooling the PCM, but what else might happen?
You don't want to do that. Yes timing, fuel delivery, etc. is affected by the EOT readings, but it is that way for a reason. You may not like the noise, but at least it's not harming your engine.
If you're looking for a safe way to cut down on some of the cold weather noise, unplug the EBP sensor at the base of your turbo pedestal. This will keep the EBPV from being actuated and help with the cold weather noises. It will cause the truck to take longer to warm up though.
Thanks. I am getting close to doing the hutch/harpoon, hoping that will help some.
The "jet noise" doesn't happen a lot, it's that friggen rattle/cackle from the cold motor that really bugs me. Still, the ebpv might quit working soon.
Hoping to make the gtg here in Houston (Tomball), and check out a few other trucks.
