Good news on my 226 flathead.. And need help..

Hi Guys, Back in Oct I got my truck started for the first time.. Anyways on the flathead I had a cyl that was stuck.. Later around Dec I started the old girl up just to see if she would start which she did.. Anyways this pass week I went to try and start truck and it started rigth up.. Anyways come to find out that the number 2 cyl came unstuck... Soo all 6 cyls are free and working... But should I still pull the head or would it be safe to drive my truck like it is ??.. Or should I pull the head and ect ??.. Now that the motor is running like it should its making me want to drive it......
Best,
Cody

Well I'll admit, you have me confused. AFAIK, if a piston is Stuck, there is no way the engine will turn, let alone run. So I would have to say that if you had this motor running you never really had a stuck piston.

Glad to hear your engine is running a little better Cody. I'm assuming you had a stuck valve which has freed itself up. A stuck piston wouldn't allow the engine to turn over. Why don't you get yourself a compression tester and see what numbers you get on each cylinder. If you aren't familar with one, we can walk you through the process if you can't find somebody there to help you. If the compression is pretty good in that cylinder along with the rest of them, my vote is to just run it at this point. You've been driving it around your farm there already for a few months now already, right?

Hi Cody, As long as you got oil pressure where it needs to be, no water in the oil or oil in the water, it's not overheating, etc. ...If it's doing what it is supposed to do, then I would not take it apart. If it ain't broke...don't fix it! Keep it running! I don't know where you got with your brakes and all, But if you got them done then proceed with caution!

Jeff is right Cody. PLEASE do not take that truck out on the highway until you have completely rebuilt those brakes from one end to the other (Do NOT skimp on anything, and get help if you need it. Based on what you've already told us about the brakes, it will need a complete rebuild.) It's fun to make em go, but it's hell to realize you can't stop. And you'll need new tires all around.

I think you're right Doc, he means stuck valves, not pistons...

4)110 as well
5)65
6)0 :-(

I just added oil to all of them and will let them sit for a day or so... My uncle was asking me if the motor would run one the four and maybe gett compession back in 2,6

Sorry guys I posted from my phone.. But yeah I did mean a stuck valve.. Not piston....

Thanks for the help....

Doc, Since the flathead had that stuck valve I didn't drive the old girl as much as I wanted to.. I also wanted to get the stuck valve free before I really started working the motor as I didnt want to screw up the flathead...
