Someone may have already found a way to make the auto headlights come on with slightly brighter than usual ambient light for FREE...but I found out a way to adjust light sensor in the middle of the dash as follows...
1. Pop out sensor with small flathead screw driver
2. Unplug wiring harness and prop on dash
3. Using a knife remove the top cover (top of 3 sections)
4. Using a sharpie, I darkened the inside with one complete pass of the marker
5. Reassemble.
Now on bright but drizzly overcast days, when the auto lights didn't come on previously, they do. But in partly couldy to full sun, they are off as desired. If u want them on all the time, use a small piece of electrical tape rather than the sharpie. I chose the inside of the cover so as to not affect the appearance.
Thanks for all of the addictive threads, I read daily at my wife's annoyance
A lot of work just to turn on your head lights.
I just hit the switch that seem to work faster.
Thanks for the smart comment, if you had actually read the post, you wouldn't have posted your reply. I wanted to improve the sensor to turn on with slightly brighter light. I succeeded and it only took about 3 minutes for the life of the truck.
Very interesting idea and I may be doing this. We have lots of drizzly/gloomy days out here on the PNW coast, sometimes not dark enough for the lights to come on but where I would prefer the lights to be on. Thanks.
Out here in mostly sunny California...we have a law that says if your wipers need to be on your headlights must be on. Part of the problem with auto lights is that it isn't always dark enough when it is raining to call the headlights on...so clicking them to on is necessary. Maybe this might help on those days!

I don't have my truck yet. Are the auto lights not driven ON by the wipers????

This has been around for years...
The lights do come on automatically when the wipers are turned on, but the lights turn back off after a few seconds of wipers off ( such as really slow drizzle days)...annoying for us OCD people. Also, with this mod the lights will come on during bright sky sunsets, which the normal lights dont.

Well I didn't know that...that is great! My 2001 Sequoia is not equipped...lol
Or you could just have them turn on the DTR lights with the click of a mouse next time you are in for service and they are in your computer....
Really, they can do that? I would LOVE for there to be DTR instead of the wipers on, lights on, wipers off, lights off mode. I turn them on by the switch any time i have my horse trailer hooked up - don't like running dark regardless of the conditions.
And with the auto lights, I can't ever tell if they're on or not when using intermittent wipers unless I get behind someone and see them reflected. Not easy (or safe) to do at 80 mph. An indicator of some sort, like it does at night and darkens the nav screen, would have been nice.
