Hello everyone...I am new to this board and I was just wondering a few things...I just got a 1996 explorer V6 2WD..it has a new tranny and 132K miles on it...I was looking for some free, Cheap mods to do to it...Like a intake and/or headers..I was looking on a few other boards and they said they had a cheap way to lift the explorer..and I was just wondering if anyone here knew how to do it..any help would be appericated.
Hello all, I'm new on this site but it feels good to find other people who enjoy their vehicles as much as I do. I have the same question here as lillbush only I have a 94 Eddie Bauer 4.0 explorer. I was wondering what would be cheap or easy to do, or if its even worth it. I was looking at Intakes and chips, but I'm not even sure that I would notice the difference on my explorer. Any suggestions would be helpful.
i have done flowmaster cat back with 2.5" pipes, a chip and drilled the airbod. doing a lil r&d on the removal of airbox and replacement of tube so i can use an open element filter. i am planning on adding a custom hood setup which would mean hood scoops with holes made for max air flow across the engine compartment. i just cant figure out how to keep water out of it yet...the chip and exaust made a difference, no doubt. for the chip, i reccomend superchips.com and flowmaster delta series muffler about 79$ from summit.
The Big 3 mods: intake, exhaust, and chip. You'll get the most out of those 3.
Go with the MAC Products intake (I have it) www.macperformance.com or www.motorhaven.com has them $5.00 cheaper. I don't know which 6 you have but this is for the OHV:
Exhaust I haven't done yet but I will be going with Dynomax. Flowmaster are also good, just more expensive.
For a chip, go with Diablo from Motorhaven.com.
Anything else you do cheaply won't make much of a performance difference without those 3. Explorer Express also has a perfomance MAF sensor for something like $250.00.
More expensive options: headers (if you can find them), cam replacement (lot's 'o money), and supercharger (the big daddy; about $3500.00 at Explorer Express).
Don't waste your money on throttle body spacers. Everything I've seen tells me that it's a complete waste of $100. Unless you just want to add it to your list of mods.
