I bought an F1504x4 last year, titled as a 79F1504x4, but several things ID it as a 76. It has a Dana 21 case, rivited radius arm brackets, 76-style front radius arm shock mounts. The motor is a swapped-in 351W, so that doesn't help. It has a 79 door jamb vin, and the frame vin is gone. Is there an inside the cab difference between those years? (73-79). Any ideas? I thought it was a 76F1004x4 frame and running gear, but the rear springs are 3" wide.
there is no rating plate, it has a cargo light, the switch is behind the driver's seat on the inside of the c-pillar, no aux tank switch, it has a single tank, fake wood-grain plastic bezel around the glovebox.
With that plastic woodgrain rh trim on the dash, it would have to be a later than 77 cab, I believe. Before that, it was a chromed casting. If you're taking the 79 vin off the door jamb sticker, it's definitely a 79 cab as those stickers self destruct when you try to take them off. Looks like maybe a redone rollover.
Is it a "for sure" that the VIN is on the top of the frame rail. I can see no signs of it and it doesn't look like it was ground off. I've checked from the cab to the rad support on the top of the frame. Is there anywhere else?
