All I need is my hitch now. Going to have to make some adjustments this truck sits up higher then my 03 F-250 FX4 did. Is it better to adjust the pinbox or the hitch.
Thanks I didn't have that planned but when I went to check it out at storage I was very happy to see how well the color matched. Just need to wash the trailer.
Don't worry until you get your hitch.
Then, you should strive to get the trailer level with about 6" inches of clearance between the bed rails and the bottom of the trailer overhang.
This is not always easy to do though.
Raising either the hitch off the bed or moving the pin box down in the frame accomplish the same goal. Giving the choice, I would raise the pin box as far as it would go and then get the height adjusment with the hitch.
My reasoning for this is that the hitch is usually very will made, the side plates that the pin box mount into - well they might be just strong enough. Moving it up keeps any flex to a minimum.
Sure wish someone on here would give me the money for a Trailersaver hitch. I ordered my adapter plate for the holes and when it comes in I will be stuck with using my old slider hitch until I can save up for the Trailersaver. List is long of things I would like to add to the truck. New hitch, spray in bed liner, bed cover to protect new hitch when I get it, Weathertech floor mats..... list can go for a few more things. Loving the truck so far only have about 225 miles so far and sure hope I don't have any of the water in fuel problems that I have read about.
My hitch is just hi enuf that I can still roll my Access Cover Tonneau cover over the top of it when not pulling the 5er. As for the pin box adjustment, personally, I would check with the RV Dealer or better yet, the RV manufacturer about torquing the bolts on the pinbox before I messed with it. JMO Not saying you can't do it. They're made to adjust. I would just get the torque specs.
Here's my matching pair:
Sorry they're not very representative of how well the two match. I'll have to get some better photos this summer.
Excuse my ignorance on travel trailers but the tires on most seem to look wimpy for the size of some of those trailers.
I’m guessing that’s not the case?
My flatbed has 16 in radials, is that what’s on these massive trailers and pictures are deceiving?
