Called JDM Engineering and asked them about their electric fan for a lightning and said they could slightly modify the shroud to work on a Super Duty V10 $455, should free up 20-40 hp.Checked a Flexalite set up- $540. Still cheaper than a cyclone.
They also have a more effecient water pump that they recommend
that will free up about 5 hp, it is designed different since it doesnt have to spin the fan anymore- $105. The fan uses all Ford parts.Just a little info for yall. Im interested !
Interesting.... any drawbacks to the electric fan vs. OEM setup, other than another tap off the elec. system? I realize it prob. only runs when needed via thermostat. Just curious what others think... thx V10KLZZ71S!
Edit: drawbacks isn't the right word... I guess I mean what other things to consider when replacing the OEM unit with an electric one should I know about.... thx.
Yes, I'm interested! I don't think you normally need that fan turning. Especially when driving down the road with plenty of air blowing throught the radiator. What is costing $500? That seems like a lot to me. Is this including install, or just for parts? Let me know.
I'm running the FLEX-A-Lite 290 fan in my truck. This is their universal truck fan. I have several pic of the setup. The kit includes an auto temp sensor to turn on the fan. I paid $350+ for the fan plus $20 for the brackets I had made to mount the fan.

Seems like a cheaper alternative to the cyclone for those with a little installation imagingation... And now the big question: Did it make a difference?
I first noticed the accleration lag is gone. The engine will reach higher RPMs faster and smoother. I like the overall driving and feel I got my moneys' worth. I havn't been driving it due to being deployed overseas. I'm hoping to post more info on MPG in the future.
The fan has a control unit that you can set. Using a small screwdriver you can turn the adjustment to where you want the fan to come on. If you have a temperature gague to check while adjusting you will know your exact setting. It is very quiet sitting inside. You will notice the running but the more I drove it the more I got used to it cycling.
If you sit at a long light it will cycle, but in stop-in-go traffic the fan rarely comes on.
I saw the clearance price and couldn't pass it up.
