Another exhaust thread... but unique!

Someday if I every quit buying other toys and tools and fixing up my garage/shop I will actually work on my kit. Until then I would like some guesses/opinions on how it will sound. I will try to describe my plans.

<O</OKeep in mind this is a Factory Five Racing Roadster kit designed for a 5.0L V8 with side pipes and I am dropping in a 300. I will be using 2 rear EFI manifolds so the front one will be modified and point forward. They will be plumbed together (2 into 1) running towards the front, kinda under the alternator, and wrap around to in front of the crank pulley. It will angle down into a system which will consist of a pipe and 2 mufflers heading out to the body cutouts for the side pipes but there will be no side pipes. I also plan on using the Super-Trap disc inserts at the end for possible performance/audio tuning. I have "thumb-balled' the fit and it looks like I will be good ta go. So what do you think of how it will sound?

Is a 300 even gonna fit in there? The 5.0 in my uncle's Factory 5 Cobra kit was pretty tight under the hood. Couldn't immagine the mods for the I6 but post pics of the install. If you are using the Mustang front suspension even better, would be interesting to see how you will deal with the oil pan.

Its pretty tough to guess at how the exhaust will sound since the number of bends, brand/type/size of mufflers, pipe size, length etc. all play a part in it. Thrush Glasspacks with the disc inserts may do well though.

351M,

After I posted this I realized how opened it was and it was somewhat intentional. I find it interesting some of the responses rendered in threads on the internet. I have found a few sources for short mufflers at ~ 14 inches but there are not many. I may op to run just the discs at first just to see how it will sound. I would not mind a bit of a spicy ricey note just to **** off the V8'ers a bit more as I blow by and split there ear drums.

As far as the 300 fit the valve cover will stick up ~ 1" above the framing for the hood making hood mods a necessity. I plan to use a tear drop scoop which I believe will give the clearance I need. The oil pan will be below the 4" frame tubes ~ 1/2" dictating a skid plate. I purchased the front sections of the factory frame motor mounts and just extended them forward. I am in the process of fabing the motor mount plates which will be solid. I had to re-work the trans mount so the pan and the TCI AODE would fit. The trans pan is just a smidge below the tubes so I'll plate that also. I had to re-work the trans tunnel in a few spots and cut tabs from the trans to make it all fit. I have had the motor/trans combo in and out more times than I can remember each time I would re-set it in I would find a bind here and there but I am pleased with the overall fit. I achieved my goal of having the 300 and still have the capibility to drop a Windsor V8 in with multiple trans options. I even have enough room to run my Weber 3x2 DCOE's

I think I have posted some pics on here I'll have to check and see. It is not much to see right now as my progress has been slow.

BTW does your uncle frequent any cobra web sites? If so what is his screen name? Mine is the same on all web sites I hit it seems to be a unique name.

Looks good! I thought for some reason you were running true dual exhaust, missed that you were going 2 into 1 and back to 2. If it helps the newer 300s had a rear sump oil pan instead of that center sump pan that you have as well, but it looks like you got past that already.

My uncle doesnt do forums and such, he took the car to one show since he built it and really only drives it a few times a year. I have only seen the car a handful of times since it was built around in around 2000-2002.

I looked at the other oil pan options and thought the rear would hang lower and the front would definitely interfere with the frame cross member up front which I did not want to alter. I am trying to leave ever thing as "stock" as possible which so far I have achieved.

Take care
Jim
