390&3spd

I'm getting close to finished with my 390 rebuild and need to know if the stock 3 spd column shift is up to the challenge. The original engine was a 360 that had a cracked block. Nothing outrageous in the 390, it's a stock rebuild for the most part. Will it ruin the 3spd in normal driving? or do I need to find a four speed?

I cant foresee any problems with running your three speed. But if you want better gas milage you could go with a 4 or 5 speed. You can get an adapter for the 5 speed at Mcleod Industries

The three-speed was standard equipment behind the 390 except for the Camper Special.

I did basically the same thing you're doing with my '73. I used the 3 speed until I could locate a 4 speed, worked like a dream.
