Hello to all, I am a newbie and have been searching this great site for a while. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I have searched for and have seen some real nice seat conversions. I have a '93' extended cab and it was customized with a really crappy front seat that has finally seen it's better days. I have looked for stock seats and the supply in my area is slim. and when you find some they are in worse shape than what I have. I have a line on a real nice set of '99' explorer seats that match my interior.I have two questions. Are the explorer seats about the same size and fit as a '94' 40-20-40 seat, and has anyone went to an expedition or excursion seat? I know I will need to modify and I know you can make anything fit, this is not a problem for me. There just seems to be an abundance of explorer and expedition seats and no decent F-150 seats.
Thank's
Craig
Im not sure how the expo seats are mounted but if you can fix then to the seat rails on the F150 you're good to go. An explorer isn't as wide as our trucks tho, so the seats might be smaller.
The Explorer seats should fit your Super Cab tracks with minimal modification. Ford used the same basic frame for a number of different applications. While the width is the same for all of them, there are 3 or 4 options for the length (front to back). All of the holes are punched in all of the seat base frames for the various applications. The ones unused for a particular vehicle are simply not threaded. You can easily tap the correct holes for your truck's tracks - probably with the self-tapping machine screws already in your current seats or the ones that would come with your Explorer replacements.
The only problem you may encounter is incorporating the slide-forward provision for easing access to the rear seat of your Super Cab.
The seat rail is not the ford stock rail. When it was customized by American Trux, they built a frame rail out of square tubing that uses the factoy holes in the pan. The passenger bucket seat is mounted to a steel plate with a release lever behind it, that when pulled, allows the seat to swing up to allow access to the back. I had a '77' K5 Blazer that worked the same way. Should'nt be a problem mounting a seat to that. With this rail set-up I should be able to mount just about any seat. Might be hard to pass on this deal for 100 bucks, charcol leather mountaineer buckets with power. So door to door explorer seats are the same, but front to back may be narrower.
Thanks
Craig
