Alright my wife got me a new stereo for Christmas so that I can plug my iphone into it. It had a kenwood deck in it before so I figured I could just cut the wires and twist them together on the new plug. Well now the new deck won't turn on. I checked for power and I am only getting it to the red wire and not anything else???? What should I look for? I also checked the fuse and it was fine, is there another one somewhere else?
The red wire is the key on hot, ( which works ) and the yellow should be always and im getting nothing. Any ideas of what could change that? Is there a fuse under the hood for the yellow wire? I'm getting power to the fuse in the cab.
Double checked it ( the fuse ) and it is getting power. You were right with your factory colors on the wire. I was going off of the wires from the previous deck. The green with black tracer is giving me nothing. But the yellow and black one is lighting up my test light?
The memory wire (green+black tracer) is on a separate fuse if I had to guess I'd say it under the hood but Im not sure just use your test light to check all if them
The yellow/black wire should on have power with the key ON, not off.
The green/purple wire should have power at all times, key on or off. If it does not, it's either got a break or short in it or the under hood fuse is blown.
IIRC, the ignition 12v(ylw/black) wire is fused in the cab at fuse #11? It's a 15 amp fuse.
The constant hot(green/purple) wire is fused under the hood. It should be fuse position A which is a 20 amp fuse in the lower left hand side of the power distribution box under the hood if you looking at the power dist box from the fender.
You may want to check the fuse on the back of the head unit to cause it should come on with out the memory wire.
I don't think it will come on without the memory wire. My F-150 has no power to the memory wire and it will not power on the stereo unless you run a jumper from the battery to the stereo.. LOL I haven't had time to trace down that problem yet. All fuses are good and there is power to the fuse under the hood, but the wire has no power behind the radio.

me too. bluetooth, usb, hd radio. new speakers to replace the factory ones. front right was blown so I needed it. Glad you got it fixed
the radio i took out was a kenwood it was put in by a local shop when they put in my remote start. they made a harness adapter for my truck which had all the wires labeled which plugged in to the factory radio harness. i just cut the kenwood plug off of that and soldered the new radio plug on to that. it all plugged in and worked great.
