I believe that I may need to change the turn signal switch on my 1972 F250 Camper Special. The right hand turn signal does not blink (stays ON) but the left one does therefore I believe my turn signal switch is busted.
Now, I have not been able to find any good instructions on how to change one. I have searched this forum but could not find anything... Can someone refer me to the proper thread or link where I can find this information?
Hi,
I'm no mechanic, but I do know that the switch doesn't make it blink. The flasher makes it blink. Since it's blinking on one side, I would guess that the flasher is probably ok.
Pull the signal bulbs on the side that doesn't work, and use your test light. See if your test light blinks. If no power at all, start checking further back on the wiring harness. It could be a broken wire or poor connection. Also check for proper grounding -- ie: are the screws that mount the backing plate to the body, or the backing plate itself all rusty?
That's my shade-tree lazy-a** two cents worth...
Someone smarter than me feel free to chime in!

When you say doesn't blink it stays on what do you mean exactly the light lights up just don't blink or when you turn the wheel the switch doesn't turn off (doesnt come back to center)

When I turn the lever, the rear light and dash arrow turns ON but it does not blink... I have to flip the lever up and down a few times in order to indicate drivers behind me that I am making a right turn.

If the front light isn't coming on (and the back one is), start by checking the front bulb. If the bulb looks ok, start with the troubleshooting I listed above...
Check the right front parking/signal light bulb, if it's burned out, the turn signals won't flash on the right side. The same double filament bulb (#1157) is used R/L & F/R and is available from any autoparts store.

Interesting... I did not know this. This is the very first thing I'll do to check these light bulbs.
Just giving you a hard time! NumberDummy's answers are always spot-on and technically top notch.

alls I know is that the ground is sometimes bad on the front light assembly and this can make the dash turn signal light light up and the flasher not flash. Re-grounding the the front signal light assembly to the chassis instead of grounding through the harness can fix your problem too, but try this if the bulb stuff doesn't work.
oh and the grounding issue is pretty common on these model trucks. And derrell I've got you beat on laziness because my truck still has this problem on the left side and Although I've known how to fix it for over a year now I haven't.

Thanks guys, you were right. All I had was a burned front bulb light. The turna signal switch still does not return by itself after I make a right turn but I can live with that.
