Slight Engine Vibration

I began notice a very slight engine vibration, especially when I first turn it on -- I noticed it when the pennies in the cup holder rattled audibly! My first, automatic thought was "this truck needs a tune up" -- except that I had one at the beginning of the year.

I thought I posted here, but I can't find the original thread -- maybe I posted it at Flat Rate?! Anyway....

I took it to the dealer, and they looked at it and said it needs a "crank shaft dampener". When I quizzed the service manager about "the old one wearing out" he started stuttering about "well, when you have an engine shudder, it's usually this". This makes me think they didn't really look at my truck -- well, they didn't charge me, at least.

Anyway, they ordered the part ($80) and it's in, and I have an appointment today to replace it, but I'm increasingly uncomfortable with this. They even told me not to take it on long trips, but when I pointed out that I had to put at least 500 miles on the truck between then and now, they said that was okay -- what's a long trip, cross country?!?!

Anyone have ideas? This isn't a snipe hunt thing, is it?

Slight Engine Vibration

Acamar,
Keep me posted. I just had my cylinder head replaced and I picked up what I would say is the same vibration that you describe. Although mine is probably related to the head replacement.
I changed PCV, injectors, oil, trans, diffs, and transfer case fluid. Checked my hoses, belt no luck. Still got the shake. You really feel it when you are stopped at a light. You dont notice it when driving.

Will do!

Yes, you don't notice it driving. Most of my miles are Interstate highway, so sometimes I'm surprised when I hit my exit and the first light, to feel that vibration. Verrrrry slight. In fact, I didn't notice it at first -- hubby did, and since then I've noticed it.

Angry Slight Engine Vibration

Well, the crank shaft dampener made the problem worse. It was either that, or the installation was incompetent. It's back in the shop this morning.

Yeah, a very slight vibration turned into a shudder that could give you an all-over body massage.

Slight Engine Vibration

Now they are saying the truck has a "problem with the inner engine". Hmm, is that like an inner ear?! HA!

They have a call in to Ford to find out if Ford knows anything about this, before they use me and my wallet as their personal scientific experiement (the thesis being "a girl's head will explode long before the wallet runs dry").

One person whispered something about "PO5". The service manager hinted darkly at "something out of balance" and mentioned fly wheel, rod (except there is no knocking noise), a possible engine replacement, and a bunch of other stuff that I can't remember (because a stupid acquaintance I don't even like showed up as I returned and talked to me in my driveway for an hour, and all my data flew out of my head as I tried to get rid of him!!!).

This is NOT my day!
