How do you get the puddle lamp cover off. Me and my brother tried to remove them on his 08 and all we did was break the plastic. I am wanting to do this mod on my truck but dont want to break anything. Any tips on getting the cover off with breaking it. Also going to change the puddle lamp bulb to an LED if possible.

I have the actual lamps, not the covers, but I used a small screwdriver to pry at the edge where there is a little notch, and they popped out rather easily. It would probably be best if it was warmer out because I found in the colder whether it was easy to snap things.

I have the lamps also. I'll probably be doing this later today

Since I haven't seen what the puddle lights look like I am assuming the circle on the bottom of the mirror housing is the cover that I can pop off. Is this correct? Sorry for asking such simple questions. Only had the truck three days. Kinda hesitant to just start pulling it apart

Well thank you all for the help. I did the mod and it looks great! The lights I found however had 6 LED lights per 3 inch strip and were narrower. I found them at pep boys. I like the extra lights

Now what other simple/cheap mods are out there for the F150?
The mods I have planned are
Cold air intake
Air bags
Line of fire rear and side light bars
Tonneau cover
Edge insight CTS

But as you can see these are all expensive add ons. Looking for cheaper mods to help personalize my truck

Sounds like a cool mod. I've never grown up either and don't plan on it!
Now the wiring harness in the mirror. Is there a pigtail for the puddle lights? I think I'd like to put a couple on, as well as the LEDs you guys are talking about.

If the truck didn't come with the puddle lamps from the factory the mirrors are not wired for the lamps. You'd have to buy mirrors with puddle lamps or create your own harness inside the mirror to accommodate the lights

My wife's expedition has the puddle lamps and personally I see no benefit to them. They only light up the top part of the door on her's. Very little light actually hits the ground on her's.

My truck turned a year old on the 23rd of this month and my LED reflector mod is still working fine. Very pleased with the mod. I get asked all the time by other F-150 owners why theirs don't light up.
I then explain it all lol.

10-4 0n those puddle lights. I don't think I'll spend the time on those then. I already popped the reflectors off to see what that looked like. Looke pretty simple. Thanks for the idea.

The deed is done! I found some amber LED flexible strips at AZ. They were 6 lights per strip, and fit just right. They actually look like they belong there since the existing turn signals on the back of the mirrors are 6 light as well.
My soldering gun has a couple attachements that allow you to actually cut plastic, that sure beat scoring with a utility knife. Only screwup was when I pried the reflector off the right side. I pried on the inside instead of the outside, and broke the tang. Some RTV and a clamp are taking care of that as I type. I feel like I just finished a job that Ford started.
An excellent and cheap mod, thanks again for the idea!!
