I was working for Hewlett Packard when they bought Compaq.

They offered 200 people bonus money to move here when they closed Compaq's projector division and merged it with Corvallis. 3 accepted.

They offered over 400 people money to move to Houston when they decided to merge the Corvallis laptop division into Compaq's and had 8 takers.

Apparently it takes a LOT more money than they were offering.

I might be able to get a diagram for you out of my hanes manual. Luckily I have never had to mess with them. The closest I've ever come was rebuilding the locking hubs.

From what I've found, to change the axle tube seals on a Dana 60 front axle you have to pull the shafts, and remove the carrier, then drive them out from the outside and then tap the new ones in from inside the pumpkin. Doesn't sound fun...

Checked my repair book and it is going to be of no help on the dana 60. Details the 44 and 50, but not the 60.

Here is what it says in regards to the Dana 60: "F350 (4WD) The axleshaft seals for the front axle are located in the differential case and require removal of the differential/ring gear assembly. This process requires tools and techniques beyond the scope of this manual and therefore should be left to a professional repair facility or dealer service department."

I found a write-up they did in Diesel Power magazine in their '97 F350. They unbolted the carrier, popped the whole thing out in one piece, drove the old seals out with a long pipe, and used a mallet and large socket to drive the new ones into place. Then popped the carrier back in and re-assembled everything.

Nothing really tricky about it. Just sucks because you have to take the hubs and spindles off, pull the shafts, pull the gears, etc.

I got plastered by work and no time to do anything, so I made some repairs and stayed with the 2.9 for now............apparently not enough repairs.

What the manual shows on the other two is very similar, except they didn't go into the differential. Lot's and lot's of parts to pull out and put back in. Last time I had a major malfunction it was in the rear. We ended up finding an entire rearend, complete with new brakes in a junk yard in Pugene. Whole job done in about 4 hours and $260.00.

I hope it is a "better" joy than the gasket on the 460.

460s aren't bad for timing chain covers..............just don't drop your 1/2" socket down in the pan.
