Anyone have a leak at the seam where the fuel line fitting is attached to the tank. Wonder how they sealed it from the factory. I am thinking of brazing the joint.
How do radiator shops boil tanks out. I think I got taken to the cleaners for $75. Tank looked better inside after the 'boil' but there was a pile of rust inside the tank and there was dust and dirt still on the outside of the tank. I was thinking they may have poured stuff inside the tank.
The last time I had one done by a Radiator shop (2005) it came back clean enough to paint inside and out but it cost me more than $75. Unfortunately, the shop closed a few years ago and I had to clean the inside of the tank in my 49 myself with electrolysis. The outside was already pretty clean so I painted it with POR-15...
Call and ask how they clean gas tanks.... Some just pours a cleaner inside and thats it. When I was younger I worked at a radiator shop. First we strip the sending unit and any lines of hoses still attached. Then use the flame from a tourch inside to get rid of any fumes left in the tank. We put a gas tank in our boil tank at closing time and the next morning take it out. After rinsing it inside and out, we would pressure test it. Call the customer to pick it up... Normally took a day unless it was really bad I would repeat this a couple more times... Radiator shops are turning into swap out shops with all the plastic tanks. I've heard of one that doesn't even have a dunk tank....
