So, I need an intercooler.

I towed my buggy out yesterday to Buena Vista, CO for some wheeling.

Its the first time I have towed with it since I added some mods:
3" DP and 4" Exhaust with Cat delete
PHP six position chip
Glow Shift 3 in 1 gauge.
Stock injectors

Anyway, it was much more of an eye opening experience watching the EGTs and how fast they really climb. My buggy and trailer only weigh in around 4500lbs. So, its not very heavy at all. I found that I "could" pretty much tow at whatever speed I want up some of these 7% grades. The problem is that the EGTs are through the roof when I do. I can hit 1200+ degrees at the blink of an eye. I basically towed trying to keep it around or under 1175*.

Anyway, how much real world difference will I see by adding an intercooler? I plan on eventually going to stage 2's, and an upgraded HPOP and well as a re-tune so I figure that I will need one regardless down the road.

I have been looking at this kit:
CXRACING 94-97 Ford Super Duty F250 F350 PowerStroke Diesel 7.3L Intercooler kit | eBay

I know I can do the SD intercooler and stuff too, but when I really price it all out, I am not really saving too much based on what I see them going for on Ebay for used intercoolers. What I like about the kit I posted is that all of the bends and such are done. So, with some minor core support trimming, its basically a bolt on and go kit. Any thoughts?

Know anyone that does exhaust work? I made all my tubing in a Hyd pipe bender and 4 inch exhaust pipe. Then just call up a salvage yard and pick up a 6.0 intercooler. Just an idea

There is a guy on the .org and nation that sells a pipe kit that has everything you need for an intercooler. All you have to do is get a 6.0 or 7.3 cooler. I think the kit is like 450. And then a cooler is about 100. So you would save at least 300 bucks for pretty close to the same thing.

That intercooler is about half the size of a 7.3 intercooler IMO it would be a waste of money

Bar & Plate Design Intercooler
Overall Size: 31"x18"x4"
Core Size: 24"x18"x4"
3" Inlet & Outlet, 4" Thickness Core

I agree with Mike, you'd be much better off with a 6.0 cooler, at least a 7.3 one. I've got 475 bucks into my ic setup, so you can do it a whole lot cheaper and more than likely cool better than that smaller one too.

What I've been told is the 6.0 cooler drops temps about 200*, and the 7.3 one is a little less as its smaller. Give or take a little of course.

I know some will disagree with me. I am running the Banks Inter-cooler set-up on mine. It was a simple install and does what I need! I really like it a lot.
