Hello everybody,
I have a 1997 Explorer XLT AWD that I bought 2 mo. ago. About 2 weeks ago the check engine light came on. Well I got a code readerand it came uo with P0446, EVAP Emission control system vent circuit malfunction. I put on a new gas cap and checked for kinked lines and leakage from the fuel tank fwd. but I have not found anything obviously wrong. It also is getting miserable gas mileage (12 MPG). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Frank
Most likely it's a defective canister purg controll valve(a common problem on those year Explorers) It's located under the spare tire by the fuel tank.
