OK Guys,
I have 73 hi-boy that I swapped in a 76 front end for the disk brakes and power brakes along with adding the power assist. The tie rods that are suppose to work are to small. Go all the way up into the steering knuckle with no resistance at all. I mean all the way up with no dust cover on ether. What gives? Do you think I have 78 or 79 steering knuckles on a 76 low pinion axle? Is so and I get new tie rods for the 78-79 will the power assi
Well, I think you're running in the same issue that I encountered when retrofitting 79 Bronco linkage and integral PS on my 73 with the drummed D44. The later disc D44 use thicker tie rod shanks and the steering arm holes on the early drum knuckles needed to be reamed in order for the Bronco linkage to fit.
Your situation is reversed... a later disc axle with the early tie rods. Therefore, I believe you need to use the tie rods for the 76 axle.
